We know that just having an air conditioning and heating system in your home is not all it takes to make your house comfortable. And after all, when we are in our home, we want to be comfortable. That is why RC's A/C & Heating also offers other services such as attic insulation, duct cleaning, and air balancing.
If you’re looking for a place to start improving your home’s energy efficiency, attic insulation is number one. Attic insulations purpose is to keep your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. If you upgrade your attic insulation from three inches to 12 inches, you could save up to 20 percent on your heating costs! A poorly insulated home requires an inside temperature at least 3° higher to maintain the same level of comfort. Properly installed Insulation protects your home with a thermal barrier that helps reduce costly fuel bills during heating and cooling seasons. Not only will good insulation lower your energy bills, it can also increase your home’s value, decrease maintenance cost, and reduce outside noise pollution. Let us give you an estimate on upgrading your attic insulation!
Your home or office can make you sick because it can contain mold, mildew, dust, dust mites, and other airborne particles such as pollen, pet dander, and smoking odors. We create tighter, more efficient homes which allow these particles to circulate throughout the home by means of our air conditioning system. If air duct cleaning is done correctly, it will remove the majority of these contaminants giving you a more comfortable living and working environment. If you have never had the air duct's cleaned before, your air duct system could be the source of headaches, allergies and breathing problems.
Typically, you should have the air ducts in your home cleaned at least every 3 - 5 years or as needed for your family. For example, allergy sufferers should have the ducts cleaned annually to help eliminate pollen growth in the homes air ducts. Also, frequent cleanings help reduce the number of dust mites in your home's air ducts and bedding.
Here are some reasons to have more frequent cleanings:

Do you have rooms that are too hot or too cold? Do you have "thermostat wars" as people try to get comfortable? Do you use additional heaters to keep warm in the winter, and extra fans to keep cool in the summer? If so, having your air duct system balanced might solve your comfort problems (and save energy dollars to boot).
Air balancing is a process of measuring and adjusting air flow to the needs of the occupants. The first step is to analyze the building loads need for heating and cooling in each room or area. The next step is to record the information from the equipment, and all of the supply and return registers and grilles. By analyzing all of this information the target airflow for each register and grille is recorded. After this information is recorded the equipment is started and the airflow through the equipment is measured as well as the static pressures created in the duct system.
Sometimes a comfort system cannot be brought into a state of acceptable performance. This can be due to equipment that is not sized correctly or not installed correctly. Many times the duct system is not adequate to do the job. Almost all duct systems leak air, some more than others. The Department of Energy believes that duct systems nationwide leak an average of 20%. Other problems with duct systems can be they are too small or too restrictive. There may not be enough branches, supply ducts, or returns. All of these problems can be diagnosed and corrected.
Another reason some systems fail to keep folks happy is lack of zoning. Zoning is an addition to a duct system that allows the system to supply conditioned air only to the rooms that need it. This keeps those rooms comfortable without overheating or overcooling other rooms. In addition to increasing comfort, zoning also saves energy dollars. Imagine you come home to a dark house. You come through the door, flip a switch and all of the lights in the house come on! That isn't very efficient, is it? Of course our lights are all controlled in rooms or "zones" of need. Your heating and cooling system can also be zoned, increasing your comfort and saving you money.
If you have any of the following situations, you should look into zoning:
· Upstairs too warm/cold
· One part of the home heats up when the sun comes out and moves across the sky
· There is a finished attic, basement, new addition or bonus room too hot or cold to enjoy
· Rooms with little or no usage
· System runs constantly but you are never comfortable
RC’s A/C & Heating can add zoning to most duct systems and you can finally get comfortable. In addition, you save money that is wasted now heating or cooling rooms or areas of the home that are not used, over-heated or over-cooled. Zoning can be added to most forced air systems by installing dampers in the ductwork. We install a thermostat for each zone - allowing you to set the temperature in each zone the way you want it. We have zoning systems for offices, too! Our zone systems can be installed in most homes/offices in one to two days.
Call us for a free in-home evaluation of your system. We will look over your ductwork and check for things that could be having a negative effect on your comfort and utility bills.
Don't be uncomfortable in your own home. Call RC’s A/C & Heating today to see what can be done about it. We can help you get comfortable and save you money on your energy bills.
